Current Opportunity

TELUS has expressed interest to identify and work with SMEs that can provide development of new applications specifically focused in three areas; 1) Mobile Medicine, 2) Content Delivery and 3) Innovative devices. A Request for Expression of Interest (REI) for a TELUS Strategic Health Care Initiative has opened up and applications are available online.

Overview

The EAP is driven by Alberta Innovates Technology and Futures (AITF), through TRTech, with the objective of stimulating economic benefits in Alberta by facilitating promising new ventures between large organizations and entrepreneurs or small entrepreneurial companies. The Javelin/EAP program specifically creates and incubates innovative new technology commercialization related ventures between large organizations (e.g. TELUS) and small and medium enterprises and startups.

Eligible applicants are Alberta-based entrepreneurs or Alberta-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with less than $50M revenue and less than 500 employees, however exceptions may be considered if it supports the intent of the program.

Benefits

For Entrepreneurs – Selected applicants have their innovation investment highly de-risked through a known challenge to tackle, a potential local first customer, and funding. Startups or SME companies build a relationship with the large organization and benefit from their corporate and market knowledge. Potentially, the selected applicant will also have large company sales efforts afforded to them for future growth on the selected opportunity.

For the Organization – They get to pursue innovative solutions to problems/opportunities for which they may not have the specific skills or resources to address. The Organization also gets an opportunity to invest in a new venture that addresses a need in their supply chain or ecosystem.

For AITF - Funding leverages local industry (large and small) investments to address real industry needs, resulting in economic and social benefits to Alberta. The program increases collaboration and facilitates relationships through the gap between small and large enterprises in Alberta.
