Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Dear Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Member,

Manitoba government seeks input on safely restoring services

The province wants Manitobans to have their say about priorities for the potential easing of the current public health restrictions. They are also interested in people’s perspectives on the risk of the virus, COVID-19 vaccines and their comfort levels with different activities.

Visit the Engage MB website to have your say about your priorities for safely restoring services including:

  • Expanding retail shopping
  • Re-opening restaurants
  • Re-opening barbershops, salons and non-regulated health professions,
  • Re-opening gyms, fitness centres, and organized recreation and sports
  • Possible increases to indoor, outdoor and household gathering sizes.

Manitoba Bridge Grant expands to include more types of businesses

The Manitoba Bridge grant application deadline has been extended to January 31, 2021.

The Manitoba government has also expanded the Manitoba Bridge Grant eligibility to include the following businesses:

  • Hotels
  • Resorts
  • Lodges and outfitters
  • Travel agencies
  • Janitorial services companies
  • Owner/operators of licensed passenger transportation

Businesses are not only eligible for the second payment, but will also be retroactively eligible for the first payment made late last year. Businesses will have to show a loss of income due to the public health orders.

Apply through the Manitoba government website.

Downtown parking: have your say

The City of Winnipeg Parking strategy virtual events have been rescheduled until February. This is your chance to have input on the direction the city takes for the parking strategy that will affect parking decisions for the next five years.

To have your say, register for their virtual events (hosted on Zoom):

The meeting workbook PDF and presentation PDF are available for download if you would like to review them ahead of time.

You can also share your thoughts by taking their parking survey.

More information is available at winnipeg.ca/parkingstrategy.

Last year, we worked with the City of Winnipeg and the Exchange District BIZ to offer complimentary parking downtown during the pandemic:

  • Monday-Friday: one hour
  • Saturday: two hours
  • Sunday: all day
  • Monday-Saturday from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Remember, complimentary parking can be combined with paid parking.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions:
