Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Dear Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Member,

We’re committed to supporting downtown businesses and that includes providing you with timely information. We know the announcement of closures is difficult to hear. We’re with you on that but we want you to know that we have your back through this difficult time. If you have any questions today or over the weekend please reach out.

Province introduces new measures under the Critical (red) level

On Friday, October 30, public health officials announced additional measures to reduce community spread of the virus. The following measures will come into effect on Monday, Nov. 2, for a minimum of two weeks:

  • Bars and restaurants will be closed except for take-out and delivery.
  • Most retail capacity will be reduced to 25 per cent or five people, whichever is higher (not including employees). Food and pharmacy are exempt and remain at 50 per cent capacity.
  • Sports and recreation programming will be suspended.
  • Gyms and fitness centres will have reduced capacity to 25 per cent and masks will be mandatory, even when exercising.
  • Movie theatres and concert halls will close.
  • Personal services (PDF) such as hair and esthetic salons, massage therapy, tattoo and piercing studios, and laser clinics remain at 50 per cent capacity.

Other restrictions including mandatory mask use in indoor public places remains in place.

We’ve got your back

We’re working to make it easier for visitors to access downtown businesses while following the guidelines:

  • Curbside pick-up zones (complimentary 15-minute parking at designated locations) are available throughout the downtown.
  • Complimentary one-hour parking downtown has been extended until December 31, 2020.

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ team is here to support you. Please reach out if you have any questions.

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions:
