Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Dear Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Member,

Share your thoughts about the province’s next steps in reopening plan

With the current public health orders expiring after Feb. 12, the province is once again asking for input from Manitobans. The province says it plans to balance the priorities of economic activity and the health and safety of Manitobans.

The province is considering the following changes:

  • Allowing food services (like restaurants and lounges) to reopen at 25% capacity and a closing time of 10 p.m.
  • Allowing gyms to re-open at 25% capacity for one-on-one and individual training sessions with adequate physical distancing and no group classes.
  • Allowing personal services, including nail salons and tattoo parlours, to reopen at 25% capacity with adequate physical distancing, enhanced personal protective equipment measures and requirements to collect information for contact tracing purposes.
  • Allowing libraries to reopen at a maximum of 25% capacity.
  • Allowing the film industry to resume work, with safety protocols in place.
  • Opening public washroom facilities with 25% capacity and enhanced signage.
  • Allowing photographers to resume operations outdoors and with studio capacity limited to patron groups of household members only.

For the full list, please visit the province's website.

Coming soon: There’s Snow Place Like Home

teaser

The Winnipeg Foundation Centennial River Trail (the trail on the Assiniboine River) is getting a lot of foot, skate, cycle and ski traffic. We know Winnipeggers are looking for things to do right here at home. To help encourage folks to visit downtown businesses, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is building fun snow sculptures, and launching a social media campaign to encourage people to walk a few minutes from the trail into downtown.

In coordination with the Festival Du Voyageur, local artists are carving unique "snowfas" (sofas made of snow) in several locations. We’ll let you know when the carvings are finished and There’s Snow Place Like Home officially launches.
