Another Venture'Challenge Winner is Solving a Global Problem

Todd Habicht

2011 Venture'Challenge winner HD Petroleum is yet another company that has come through Innovate Manitoba's program with plans of changing the world.

The company is well on its way. Its small-scale micro-refinery approach to converting waste motor oil into consumable diesel fuel is resonating with customers globally. Sales have significantly eclipsed president and CEO's early projections of $25 million.

The company has raised close to $14 million through four rounds of debt and equity financing that has gone toward research and development, engineering, and building of the company's first commercial unit. The RG1 micro-refinery is set to be commissioned later this year. Habicht points out that 100 per cent of the equity dollars are Manitoba-based and that the latest round came entirely from the company's current shareholders.

Launchpad Startup Skills Bootcamp in Winnipeg May 13-16, 2016 is your entry into the 2016 VentureChallenge.

Three startups each will be awarded over $100,000 at this year's Venture'Challenge 2016 competition, in a pilot project being run by Innovate Manitoba.

To compete at the Venture'Challenge, startups must first complete Innovate Manitoba's 3.5 day intensive Launch'Pad Startup Skills Bootcamp and be selected among the top six bootcamp participants.

The deadline for entry into the Launch'Pad Bootcamp is Friday May, 6, 2016.

The Launch'Pad Bootcamp typically takes in 12 to 15 startups in each cohort. This year, the Bootcamp takes place from May 13-16 and the top six then have about a month to prepare for the Venture'Challenge, which happens on the morning of June 22 as part of Innovate Manitoba's Lift'Off event.
