As the year comes to a close, and this marks the final MEMO e-newsletter of the year, I want to thank our downtown community, our dedicated Board of Directors, and our incredible BIZ team for their dedication, passion and efforts throughout the year to move our downtown forward.
Winter has officially arrived, and our Wawanesa Enviro Team has been hard at work daily, clearing snow to ensure our sidewalks are safe, clean and accessible. Their dedication to getting the job done, even in challenging weather conditions, is incredible.
As we’ve learned this year, it’s important to celebrate wins, while addressing our challenges. And so, before we say ‘goodbye’ until the new year, I wanted to share a few highlights for me this year. Securing funding for the Downtown Safety Action Plan was a critical success, as we know crime and public safety continues to be a top concern for our members and the community. We had some big wins with the Building Business Program, which allowed us to distribute $1.1 million to support 55 BIZ members open, expand or enhance their business. I was so moved to see a record-breaking turnout for our Spring CleanUp and the incredible response for the Choose Downtown Winnipeg campaign & contest, which provided people an opportunity to share their positive downtown experiences. Our teams knocked services out of the park, including nearly a million litres of litter picked and over 5,100 graffiti tags removed, all reflecting the incredible commitment to making downtown clean, attractive and a welcoming place for everyone.
Over the next few weeks, I’m looking forward to slowing down and spending some quality time with family and friends and enjoying delicious food. And even if it’s freezing, you’ll find me on the ski trails between Christmas and the new year! It’s been a busy year, and I’m grateful for all we’ve accomplished together.
Wishing you all a safe and merry holiday season.

Downtown BIZ operations over the holidays
|
|
|
Our front-line teams will be here for you throughout the holiday season. While our main office will be closed from December 25 to January 1, the Wawanesa Enviro Team and Ambassador Team will be on the ground with adjusted operations:
The Ambassador Team will be out and about on December 28 through the 31st, supporting our downtown community and assisting on game days for the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose. On days when they’re not available, courtesy walks can be provided by our friends at the Downtown Community Safety Partnership (DCSP).
The Wawanesa Enviro Team will maintain regular hours from December 27 to 31, and will be off on December 25, 26 and January 1.
