Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Winter Wanderland 2023 officially launches this Friday
Winter Wanderland

Our signature winter event is back!

Winter Wanderland encourages people to wander and discover something new downtown and embrace Winnipeg’s “winter city” attractions. Through the exciting programming and activations, we’re aiming to increase visitation throughout the winter months and encourage people to support a downtown business along the way.

Join us for our Winter Wanderland Kickoff Party this Saturday, February 11th from 6:00PM to 8:30PM outdoors at True North Square. The night will feature thrilling performances from Feather Talia and Prairie Sky of the Bannock Babes, Fire & Light fire performers, and live music by DJ Mama Cutsworth. Participants can also enter our #WanderlandWpg staycation contest which includes gift cards from businesses downtown.

drawing of proposed realignment of Smith Street

If approved by the City Council, downtown Winnipeg may see a new public plaza through an expansion of Odeon Park next to Burton Cummings Theatre. The proposed plans would increase the size of the existing pocket park to a new public plaza three times the size and would give space for people to connect through outdoor programming and events. The site would include improved seating, lighting, and trees, all of which improve vibrancy and can increase safety.

Learn more about Kate Fenske, CEO of Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, and her vision for downtown. She talks about the difficulties of changing the public’s perception of downtown, the diversity of our restaurant scene, and being cheerleaders for our own city. Oh, and she can’t cook.
