Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Hello BIZ members and a Happy New Year!

As we all work to welcome employees, customers and visitors back downtown, I want to personally thank you for being part of this community. I see firsthand that we are stronger together. This year, our Downtown BIZ team will work with you, along with all levels of government and our partners, on a new vision for downtown. We know our downtown has changed and this is an incredible opportunity to transform downtown into a community where people come first. So, whether it’s attracting new businesses or residents here, providing new recreation or entertainment opportunities, or driving more customers to a downtown business it starts with people. We want to give Winnipeggers a reason to come downtown and be proud of this neighbourhood. As we move forward together, your input will be key to helping us realize this vision and what the future of downtown will be.

Our first event of the new year to invite people back downtown is Winter Wanderland which will launch in a few weeks. More info to come!

In the meantime, we are making a couple minor changes to this MEMO e-newsletter. What you can expect:

  • A regularly scheduled MEMO e-newsletter that will hit your inbox every second Wednesday, where we’ll continue to share the news about downtown and the issues affecting your business.
  • A refresh of the look and feel

As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions:

February 2-5: Winterscape presented by Sputnik Architecture – this ice carving competition will bring world–renowned ice carvers to our city and will be taking place at Upper Fort Garry. The public is open to visit the sites and are encouraged to vote for the People’s Choice Award using QR Codes on site.

February 10 – 20: Winter Wanderland presented by Downtown Winnipeg BIZ – our signature winter event is back! This year, #WanderlandWpg will officially launch on February 10th and will include ice sculptures, fun activations, and fat bike tours provided by Kendrick’s Outdoor Adventures throughout downtown. Stay tuned for more info on all things Winter Wanderland – parties, tours, a staycation package giveaway, and other exciting events.

February 15 – 17: Winter Cities Shake Up 2023 Conference – this three-day event highlights the best of winter and what it means to live in a winter city. Urban planners, designers, entrepreneurs, artists, cultural and community organizers will be gathering at Fort Garry Hotel to celebrate all winter has to offer in Winnipeg.

Farmers’ Market Stalls for BIZ members

Did you know that Downtown BIZ members may set up a free stall at the Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market? There are limited slots left for the spring indoor season!

We welcome around 1000 shoppers to each Farmers’ Market held at Cityplace – which is great exposure for your business! Vendors offer a variety of fresh & local products. For non-Downtown BIZ members, they need to make, bake, or grow the product to be included in the market.

Note: submission of an application does not guarantee inclusion at the Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market. Your application will go through an approval process, and you will be notified if accepted.
