Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Members

Message from Kate
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from all of us at Downtown Winnipeg BIZ!

After some much-needed time to recharge with family, friends, and a few ski trails in between, I’m excited to welcome you back as we kick off what promises to be an exciting year.

We’re starting strong with two new board members joining us—Michelle Young from Kum Koon Garden and Richard Thomas from Skip the Dishes. Michelle has an extensive background in accounting as controller at her family owned and operated restaurant. Richard brings a wealth of knowledge from the IT sector in software engineering as well as leadership development and entrepreneurship. I know they’ll be great additions to our Board, providing insight and guidance on our strategic efforts to support members and move downtown forward.

As our teams get everything in place for the new year, including recruitment and onboarding, and finalizing departmental plans and budgets, our frontline crews will be busy keeping our sidewalks clear and accessible. We also have some exciting events coming up and projects taking shape this quarter, including the Indigenous Art Mural project at RBC Convention Centre, new Zodiac banners in Chinatown, and a Downtown Speakers Series (more on that in the coming weeks!). And while we’re only a week into the new year, planning for our annual Spring CleanUp and summer events will also get underway in Q1.

Last year, our Choose Downtown Winnipeg campaign celebrated our community. This year, it’s all about you – our BIZ members. Over the coming months, our MEC team will focus on creating content that tells your stories and highlights the incredible work you do through fresh campaigns. If you’re interested in being featured, we’d love to hear from you! Please email Kristian Escoto, our Marketing and Communications Specialist, at kristian@downtownwinnipegbiz.com.

I look forward to connecting with our BIZ members this year, and ensuring you have the information and tools you need to succeed in 2025.

RBC Convention Centre turns 50!
RBC Convention Centre

Congratulations to the RBC Convention Centre celebrating 50 years of bringing people from all over our city, country and the world to downtown Winnipeg!

As a world-class destination for meetings and conventions, RBC Convention Centre has been a key player and driver of economic activity for decades, and 2025 is shaping up to be even more promising. This year, they’re hosting a variety of local, national and international events, including 10 consumer shows from January to May, Destination Canada’s signature event – Rendez-Vous Canada (RVC) - in late May, and the Grey Cup Festival in November.

Our Operations teams – Wawanesa Enviro Team and BIZ Ambassadors – will be on hand to support these significant events, and our Marketing, Engagement and Communications team will keep members informed so you can prepare for increased foot traffic and to welcome visitors downtown.
