2023 World Police & Fire Games
July 28 – August 6
Winnipeg is gearing up to welcome 8,500 guests for the 2023 World Police & Fire Games! Six downtown locations will welcome athletes for various events and competition including 300 Main for a Stair Race, Memorial Boulevard for the Ultimate Firefighter competition, The MET for bodybuilding and the University of Winnipeg Duckworth Centre for basketball. The Forks and the RBC Convention Centre are also important venues for the games.
An international sporting event of this magnitude stimulates economic growth for our hotels, restaurants, bars, and stores. With the coverage of international media, downtown Winnipeg’s culture and charm will also be showcased to international audiences.
To ensure our guests have an unforgettable experience, Downtown BIZ Ambassadors will be stationed at the competition venues and all around downtown. With their warm hospitality, insider tips, and helpful handbills, guests will find must-visit spots to check out easily.
Let’s put downtown’s best foot forward and extend a warm welcome to the athletes, guests, and visitors. If you are offering any specials during this time or extending your hours, feel free to tag us on social media at @DowntownWpgBIZ or email kristian@downtownwinnipegbiz.com.
Let the games begin

City commits to investing additional staff resources and funding for downtown library
Changes are coming to Millennium Library. City Council has given the green light for $1 million worth of safety improvements.
The City has committed to reopening the Community Connections space in the main lobby. It will be a dedicated space where the community can come together and access social support, resources, knowledge and services. The City will also hire ten Community Safety Hosts and up to five additional security officers.
Downtown Winnipeg BIZ supports safe and inclusive spaces for everyone to connect and gather downtown. We look forward to this major investment in our city’s central community library.
