Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Portage & Main Revitalization: Thoughts & Survey
May 10 & 11
Portage & Main

The City of Winnipeg is looking for public input on Portage & Main – our city’s iconic intersection – as it considers enhancing the public space around it while replacing the membrane (waterproofing layer) that protects the underground concourse.

As Downtown BIZ members, your input is important and can help shape the future of the intersection. We encourage you to share your thoughts by taking the online survey.

Alternatively, you may attend one of the pop-up events on May 10 or 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pop-up #1 on May 10: 201 Portage Avenue (lobby)
Pop-up #2 on May 11: Underground concourse near Scotiabank

Downtown Winnipeg BIZ continues to advocate for Portage & Main to be open and accessible to all.

Spirit Week
May 15-19
Spirit Week

Spirit Week is coming up from May 15th to 19th and we need your help to pack downtown with all the energy we can! Here are five simple ways to get your team excited to participate in this year’s Spirit Week:

  1. Spread the word to your team early and often.
    1. Start a group or committee to spark ideas on bringing Spirit Week to life in your workplace. Bringing people into the process will add to the excitement!
    2. Tack up our Spirit Week posters around your workplace to make sure everyone knows what’s coming and how they can celebrate.
    3. Be sure to talk about all things Spirit Week leading up to the event! Share how your organization will be participating during team meetings, in the break room, and with your customers.
    4. Hit the socials with our templates and encourage employees to engage. Remember to use #BackDowntownWPG.
    5. Send frequent Spirit Week reminders so no one misses the memo! During Spirit Week, make sure the team knows what’s in store for the next day by sending a reminder at the end of each workday.
  2. Get creative and show some downtown spirit by creating custom activities that best suit your workplace culture. Here are some ideas (PDF) to get the creative juices flowing.
  3. Let people know who’s attending each event out in the community by sharing a sign-up sheet.
  4. Go on an office-wide adventure to one (or more!) of the week’s community events. Remember to encourage everyone on your team to attend!
  5. Our best tip? Show your downtown pride by getting involved in planning and leading by example.

We can’t wait to see your collective spirit shine through! We’ll share our office participation in our socials.
