Over the past few weeks, transformative announcements were made across downtown Winnipeg that could change the fabric of our neighbourhood. As these exciting projects come to light, we invite all our Downtown BIZ members to join us in this renewed chapter of the neighbourhood.
Like the students who shared their exciting ideas through Minecraft, now’s your chance to share input on several projects through the following surveys and open houses:
Alternatively, you may attend one of the pop-up events on May 10 or 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
CentrePlan 2050 feedback and open house
Help the City make a long-term plan for the economic and cultural heart of our city. CentrePlan 2050 will guide investment in downtown parks, streets, and buildings. The plan will help transform what downtown looks like, how we get around, and how we experience downtown. The goal of CentrePlan 2050 is to get more people living and visiting the neighbourhood.
How to Participate
Your input will help the city set their priorities guiding investment and development for downtown.
We are inviting you to provide your input online by June 15 or join us at the open house on Thursday, May 25:

Portage Place redevelopment
The proposed plans represent a significant step forward in creating an inclusive space that reflects the diverse and unique needs of our community. We are thrilled to see a plan that creates a gathering place for everyone. The three-part campus will include a comprehensive health-care centre, affordable and family housing, full-scale grocery store, urban green spaces, and other neighbourhood services.
In addition to these main components, over two acres of public and outdoor meeting spaces and more than 1000 heated underground parking spaces will be integrated into the plan.
Stay tuned for more information about the community and stakeholder consultation.
Take a deeper dive
Portage and Main survey (until May 26, 2023)
Share your ideas for downtown’s iconic intersection. At Downtown BIZ, we continue to advocate for an open intersection where people can easily cross the street. This is about accessibility, which should be non-negotiable. An open Portage & Main is critical for economic activity and improving safety and vibrancy. The more people spend time in and around the space, the better it is for businesses in the area.
Make your voice heard
We encourage you to join us on this exciting journey towards our community’s renewed vision for downtown. Your active participation, ideas, and support are crucial to shaping a downtown that truly reflects the needs of our community.
