Significant downtown development project moves forward
Carrington Real Estate has remobilized construction of a 14-storey mixed-use development at the corner of Donald Street and St. Mary Avenue. Named DSM for its location, this significant project will include 160 rental units, 10,000 square feet of commercial space, which will include The Keg Steakhouse + Bar on the main floor and Carrington’s headquarters on the second floor.
On Friday, I had the opportunity to join the Carrington Real Estate team and partners, along with Mayor Gillingham and dozens of downtown stakeholders and members of the business community to celebrate this transformative project.
We know increasing housing density downtown is critical to improving safety, increasing economic activity and supporting a thriving and vibrant neighbourhood. We’re excited to see this project come to life and I want to commend Carrington for its investment and commitment to the future of our downtown.

Let’s continue the positive downtown dialogue
We’re over halfway through our Choose Downtown Winnipeg campaign and contest, and I couldn’t be more excited about the impact it’s already having.
This campaign is all about creating space for people who choose downtown—whether they live, work, study, or visit—and helping shift the narrative in a positive direction. It’s been so encouraging to see our community embrace the campaign, with people lighting up as they share their stories.
You may have spotted us downtown at our pop-up events or caught us on the news! I had the chance to chat about the campaign and the great things happening downtown with the Winnipeg Free Press Community Review and had a great conversation with Rachel Lagacé on CTV Morning Live.
While the contest wraps up in a week, our work with these stories will continue long after. We’ll keep sharing the positivity, helping amplify and promoting the vibrancy of our downtown community. Please keep spreading the word about the campaign and contest with your friends, family, colleagues, and community.
