Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Member Survey on reconciliation
suvey

As an organization, we regularly engage with Indigenous communities and individuals as part of our events, through our work in the public realm, our advocacy efforts and more. While we know these actions are important, we also know there’s more we can do to move reconciliation forward in our downtown.

Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is working with an Indigenous consultant to create an organization-wide strategy which will shape the next steps in our reconciliation journey, both through our internal and external practices. Your input will play a crucial role in informing the strategy.

Please take 10-20 minutes to fill out our survey, and you will have a chance to win a $500 Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Gift Card!

Mayor sets the stage for our new Downtown Speaker Series
Mayor

What an incredible morning it was at our first Downtown Speaker Series featuring Mayor Scott Gillingham. With over 60 Downtown BIZ members gathered at East India Company, we dove into the City’s plans to improve downtown safety and gave the business community an opportunity to connect and explore solutions together.

At the event, Mayor Scott Gillingham shared the City’s plans to make downtown safer, including:

  • funding for 24/7 safe spaces
  • adding 24 peace officers to Winnipeg Transit buses by end of 2023
  • two dozen Winnipeg police officers on foot patrols downtown
  • revisiting the City’s Building Exterior Lighting Grant program
  • working collaboratively with partners in the social services sector and other levels of government.

A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us. We can't wait until our next Speaker Series session in the new year. Stay tuned for our speaker reveal and exciting updates!

WHAT WE DO

A new skywalk and construction notice
skywalk

A new skywalk portion is being installed to connect True North Square to the brand-new Wawanesa headquarters.

The construction means southbound lanes of Carlton St., between Graham Ave. and St. Mary Ave. are closed until December 1 to accommodate. Pedestrian access will be maintained around the site.

With our extended indoor skywalk network, our community will enjoy smoother connections and make it a breeze to explore downtown spots and support our businesses!
