Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Dear Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Member,

Last chance to register for the Getting Around Downtown Discussion

From roadways to bike paths to transit to parking – there are many contributing factors to getting around and staying downtown. Tell us what matters most to you, your employees and customers.

Hear about how downtown construction is managed from the City of Winnipeg’s Public Works department. The Forks will also join us to talk about how they’re using revenue from parking to reinvest back in the site and how a downtown parking benefit district could lead to neighbourhood improvements. We also want to hear from you about what kind of support would be most helpful during periods of construction, how parking policies affect you, and your ideas for how our neighbourhood could be better connected and accessible.

What: Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is hosting an afternoon session and discussion about getting to, from and around downtown.

Who: Downtown Winnipeg BIZ members, Sara Stasiuk, President & CEO of The Forks North Portage and Blake Kibbins, Pavement Management Engineer for the Public Works department of the City of Winnipeg.

When: Tuesday, June 28, 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Where: Inn at the Forks

Snacks and refreshments will be served. Please include any dietary restrictions with your event registration.

Patio Fest starts Friday!

Winnipeg’s favourite patio-hopping event returns to downtown this weekend! We created Patio Fest last year to encourage people to visit downtown, even though we couldn’t hold large gatherings at the time. Patio Fest was so well-received that we’re bringing it back again this year!

We’re happy to share we have 21 member restaurants participating this year. If you’re not one of the participants, we hope you visit a patio, enjoy food and drink specials and live performances, and support the downtown community this weekend! Listen for Patio Fest ads this week on Energy 106, HOT 100.5 and 103.1 Virgin Radio.

For more a list of venues including schedules, please visit our website.

Enjoy a downtown patio.

June is National Indigenous History Month

In June, we recognize the significant contributions of Indigenous peoples as we commemorate National Indigenous History Month. During this month, take time to recognize the rich history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across Canada.

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ, alongside APTN, will be planting the 8th annual downtown Indigenous Garden on June 22. You are invited to attend the planting event and ceremony from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Air Canada Park. There is no registration necessary for this event.

APTN’s Indigenous Day Live is back on June 18. This year will be reinvented into a cultural and artistic showcase. Indigenous and non-Indigenous people are invited to celebrate in-person at The Forks or from home on APTN, radio & YouTube. You can also catch an encore broadcast on June 21, which is celebrated nationally as Indigenous Peoples Day.

Visit the Government of Canada website for resources on Indigenous history, inspiring Indigenous trailblazers and reconciliation, as well as downloadable graphics for social media.
