June 28 – Downtown Counts
With the seemingly never-ending winter behind us, we're pleased to welcome more
visitors downtown. After April's decline, we saw an increase in May, followed by
another slight decline. While there isn't an obvious reason (like weather)
that can be tied to the decline, we know that it's normal for the visitor numbers to ebb
and flow throughout the year. We've seen a significant increase in events and activity in June and
are hopeful that will continue into the summer. We also expect to see another
major increase in September after folks are back from summer vacation and as
more workers return to the office.

Return to downtown offices
We’re happy to share that Manitoba Hydro employees are returning to the office, at least part time.
The Downtown Winnipeg Farmers' Market is back at the Manitoba Hydro Plaza on Thursdays all summer for downtown workers and the whole community to enjoy.

NEW! Pedestrian counter data
The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has recently started using pedestrian counters to give us another way to track downtown activity. We’re sharing the first numbers we’ve collected in this issue of Downtown Counts, recognizing that to get a good sense of what the numbers mean, we’ll need to make comparisons over time. Here’s the data we’ve collected so far.
Despite a slight decrease in the visitation numbers, May’s on-street parking numbers for the month were up from April.
Below is an overview of what to expect downtown this summer. We hope this helps you better prepare your business and marketing efforts. Downtown Winnipeg BIZ launched our summer events this past month – Patio Fest, Fitness in the Park, Downtown Winnipeg Farmers’ Market and Downtown Sounds Concert Series – and we hope to see more traffic downtown as events pick up.
