Our Downtown Your say

What do you need your downtown to be?

Together with our partners at Economic Development Winnipeg, West End BIZ and Exchange District BIZ, we’re looking to people like you: those who live, work, and spend time downtown to help us understand how you feel about your city’s core neighbourhood. This is your chance to tell us how downtown ranks for you on things like transportation, accessibility, activities, attractions, outdoor spaces, safety, amenities, and places to live, so we can plan and prioritize improvements for the future.

Have your say and help us build our to-do list. You could win one of five $100 gift cards to a downtown business of your choice.

In addition to filling out the survey, please share with your colleagues and networks. Every voice counts!

The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete.

Pitikwé Skatepark opens at Portage Place
PITIKWÉ

On October 27, Pitikwé had its grand opening and welcomed Winnipeg’s skate community in the space where Staples used to be in Portage Place mall. Pitikwé Skatepark is a safe, welcoming place where everyone is accepted, and features artwork done by youth from the neighbourhood. The completely transformed space features a full mini-ramp, several quarter pipes and a pyramid-like structure with a long rail known as a “battleship”.

This brand-new recreation space where everyone is welcome adds to the unique experiences you can only find downtown. We look forward to the space attracting young people and adding vibrancy to the area in the evenings and weekends. The skatepark’s operating hours are Monday - Friday, from 4:00 - 10:00 p.m., Saturday 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Government leaders announce commitment to working together for the greater good of Manitobans
collaboration

On October 27, the Honourable Dan Vandal, Premier Wab Kinew, and Mayor Scott Gillingham met to discuss how their respective levels of government can better work together to deliver results for Manitobans. One of the topics discussed was the revitalization of downtown Winnipeg including the need for residential growth and more support for those battling addictions and mental health challenges.

This collaboration between the three levels of government is what we’ve been waiting for and Friday’s conversation gave us a renewed sense of optimism for our neighbourhood. We know when we work together, we can achieve more, especially when we’re all moving in the same direction.

As a demonstration of how unique partnerships can create solutions that work, $2M in federal funding was announced to support Social Enterprise Manitoba projects.
