Collaboration and progress
MB Legislature

“Winnipeg’s Downtown is Manitoba’s Downtown” – Wab Kinew, Premier.

We warmly congratulate the newly elected Manitoba Government following this year’s provincial election. As our province embarks on this new chapter, we at Downtown Winnipeg BIZ are looking forward to working with the government and advocating on behalf of our BIZ members and downtown community.

Short-Term Bike Parking Strategy
biking

Can you pedal your way to the perfect proposal?

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is on the hunt for a consultant to whip up an innovative analysis and action plan for short-term bike parking in our bustling Business Improvement Zone.

This exciting project aims to revamp the way we think about bike parking. We want to strategically locate and enhance short-term bike parking amenities in the heart of downtown, and we need your expertise to make it happen.

What are some benefits of an accessible bike parting to business owners?

  • Attracts more diverse customers – cyclists who prefer eco-friendly transportation options.
  • Increased foot traffic and potential sales.
  • Supports downtown revitalization – making downtown more attractive and improving local economy.

Neighbourhood’s got a new splash of colour
downtown murals

Downtown Winnipeg is proudly showing off not one, but two dazzling new murals, courtesy of the Wall-to-Wall Mural and Culture Festival!

‘Mashkiki Gitigaan’ or Medicine Garden is a vibrant creation by Kristin Flattery, an Oyate/Anishinaabe artist, now gracing the walls at Precision Movement and Therapy (164 Fort Street). This abstract artwork explores traditional medicines from Manitoba, celebrating their importance in First Nations’ health.

‘Tigers on Another Planet with Rainbow Laser Fun Clouds’ by Ten Yetman, located at 254 Edmonton. A vibrant blast from the 60s sci-fi era, this piece showcases two tiger-like beings living on different planets alongside majestic cloud-like entities – a visually stunning and otherworldly art scene uniquely found here in our neighbourhood.

These murals are more than just eye candy – they breathe life into our streets and celebrate our local artists. Stay tuned for more colourful art!

MORE REASONS TO LOVE DOWNTOWN

School makes its debut downtown!
Providence University College

Providence University College, a Christian post-secondary institution from Otterburne, has acquired the former Booth University College building at Ellice Avenue and Colony Street – a move set to enhance downtown’s educational offerings.

Beginning in July 2024, Providence will open its doors to approximately 400 students and host its business and management programs. With this significant move, they have their sights set on growth and expect to accommodate a thriving community of 700 students by fall 2024.

We’re thrilled to warmly welcome the incoming students, whose energy and enthusiasm will contribute to the vibrancy in our community!
