Downtown Winnipeg BIZ: Memo - The latest information for BIZ Members

Dear Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Member,

Fierté Canada Pride comes to Winnipeg June 2022

As you may know, Pride Week is underway. It officially kicked off with the flag raising at City Hall and continues until the last performance at The Forks on Sunday night, June 5. There are several Pride events happening downtown and beyond.

Expect street closures downtown while the parade makes its way to The Forks. On June 5, the rally at the Manitoba Legislature begins at 10 a.m. and the parade will begin at 11 a.m. Traffic will be delayed likely until 12-12:30 p.m. If you’d like to join in, parade walkers and spectators love to see Pride (rainbow) decorations in business, residential and hotel windows along the route!

Pride Route

This year, Pride Winnipeg is hosting the national Canada Pride Human Rights Conference at the Radisson Hotel. This means the Pride of the Prairies is also the national destination for the national association of Pride festivals, Fierté Canada Pride.

Say hi to our teams if you see them out and about:

  • Our Enviro Team will be right behind the parade to clean the area of any litter (and glitter?) left by the walkers or spectators.

  • Downtown Ambassadors have been at the Radisson Hotel and at the Winnipeg Art Gallery Cocktail Gala to welcome conference attendees and share downtown recommendations.

  • Ambassadors will also be at the festival at The Forks to give folks the friendly customer service experience they’ve come to expect.

  • You can still call for a courtesy walk during this time: 204-958-7233

If you are interested, you can find more information on the Pride Winnipeg website.

RFP issued for Air Canada Window Park consultation

Our parks downtown give friends and colleagues a place to connect, spend time in nature, and enjoy events that add fun and vibrancy to the area. Keeping parks in our neighbourhood looking their best, while meeting the needs of those who use them is a key part of downtown recovery.

As part of the Downtown Recovery Strategy, Air Canada Window Park has been identified for revitalization. The first step in the journey will be community engagement and consultation with those who use the park, key stakeholders and the neighbouring businesses and properties.

A request for proposal for public engagement services is the first phase of investment in the park revitalization funded by the City of Winnipeg. Can you or someone you know help lead this work? Visit CentreVenture’s website for more information.
